Methodology
Scope
Topten.eu presents washer-dryers (combined washing machine and tumble dryer in one appliance) with integrated heat pump. These are the most energy efficient washer-dryers and have a moderate water consumption.
Technical criteria
In order to qualify for Topten.eu, washer-dryers must meet the following criteria:
- Energy efficiency class D or better
Data sources
Order of presentation
The products are ordered according to their Energy Efficiency (kWh/kg full cycle). The order can be changed individually by clicking on the head of the tables.

Costs for electricity and water
Assumptions:
- Costs for electricity and water (in €) during 15 years (product life) according to the annual energy and water consumption as declared on the product fiche according to the Labelling Directive No 96/60/EC, for 200 wash & dry cycles per year.
- Tariff of electricity: 0.30 €/kWh
- Tariff of water: 4 €/m3
Capacity washing / drying (kg)
The rated load capacity of the model in kg laundry, for washing and drying. The capacity of washer-dryers for drying is usually lower than for washing.
- Washing: for a standard 60°C cotton washing cycle
- Drying: for a standard ‚dry cotton’ drying cycle
Annual energy consumption (kWh/year)
Annual energy consumption of the model as declared on the product fiche according to the Labelling Directive No 96/60/EC, for 200 full wash & dry cycles per year.
Annual water consumption (litres/year)
Annual water consumption of the model as declared on the product fiche according to the Labelling Directive No 96/60/EC, for 200 full wash & dry cycles per year.
Energy efficiency class wash & dry
The energy efficiency class according to the EU energy label (Directive 96/60/EC). The classes range from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). On the market are mainly the three classes A – C.

Energy Efficiency (kWh/kg)
The Energy Efficiency in kWh/kg of washer-dryers is calculated as follows, based on the Labelling Directive 96/60/EC:
Energy consumption for a full wash&dry cycle of a full washing load (kWh) / capacity washing (kg)
Energy consumption wash & dry (kWh/cycle)
Energy consumption per full wash & dry cycle in kWh according to the declaration on the Energy Label.
Water consumption wash & dry (litres/cycle)
Water consumption per full wash & dry cycle in litres according to the declaration on the Energy Label.
Washing performance class
Washing performance class according to the Energy Label (A – G). Washing machines must all be in class A.
Energy / Water consumption wash
Energy consumption (kWh/cycle) and water consumption (litres/cycle) for a wash cycle only, without drying.
Energy / Water consumption dry
Energy consumption (kWh/cycle) and water consumption (litres/cycle) for a dry cycle only, without washing.
Noise (dB(A)) washing/ spinning / drying
Sound power level in decibel (dB(A)) during washing, spinning and drying according to the declarations on the EU energy label.
Countries available
This item displays in which countries the products are available according to producers’ declarations, national Topten-sites and data bases as EPREL. The considered countries are all member states of the EU, plus the UK, Norway and Switzerland. However, the availability is sometimes difficult to define precisely as it can depend on marketing and sales decisions by retailers and national manufacturing units.
