Methodology
Topten.eu (Best products of Europe) presents the most energy efficient circulation pumps for heating systems of Europe - standalone pumps or integrated in a product.
In order to be selected, pumps must comply with the following criteria:
- Energy Efficiency Index equal to or lower than 0.18 (0.23 is mandatory since August 2015 according to Ecodesign Regulation No 641/2009)
Data Sources
- Producers’ declarations
- Topten sites such as www.topten.ch
Order of presentation
The products are ranked according to their flow rate. If you wish to order them according to their power, for example, you just need to click on "sort by". Similarly, you can order them according to the parameter you are interested in.
Glossary
Brand and Model
Brand and product's name.
Energy Efficiency Index (EEI)
The EEI is an indicator of a circulator's efficiency. The EEI is defined in the Ecodesign Regulation for circulators No. 641/2009, and it must be indicated on the name plate, the packaging and the technical documentation. The lower the EEI, the higher a product's energy efficiency is.
Flow rate (m3/h)
Flow rate (Q) at maximum hydraulic power (where Q*H is maximum, according to EU Regulation No 641/2009). The flow rate is the primary criteria for dimensioning a pump. Well insulated single family houses require less than 0.5 m3/h - most such houses have oversized pumps installed. Older houses (up to four-family houses) need from 1 to 2 m3/h.
Head (m)
Head (H) (measured in meters) is produced by the circulator at the specified point of operation. In the Topten list the head is given at the maximum hydraulic power operation point.
Available in countries
This item displays the availability of models in European countries according to producers’ declarations and national Topten sites. "EU" means all countries of the European Union. However, the availability is sometimes difficult to define precisely depending on retailers' selling decisions or if the supply is stated as possible on catalogues but there is no marketing for specific products in some countries.
The country codes are according to ISO.

- Coolproducts informs about the EU Ecodesign process. It is a coalition of NGOs from all across Europe working to ensure ecodesign policy works for Europeans and the environment. They advocate stronger policies throughout Europe and push for better and more ambitious regulations.
- ECOS (Ecostandard) is an international NGO with a network of members and experts advocating for environmentally friendly technical standards, policies and laws.
- EPREL (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling) is the European product database. Products with an energy label are registered in EPREL in order to provide consumers with detailed product information.
