Topten.eu – Best Products of Europe – presents smartphones with a good repairability.

Technical Criteria

In order to be displayed on topten.eu, smartphones must meet at least one the following criteria:

EU energy efficiency class A or B and EU repairability class A or B
French repair index of 7.0 and higher

In addition:

The information on the European energy label and the EU repairability class corresponds to the official manufacturer or EPREL data.
The repair index (indice de réparabilité) declared by manufacturers according to the directives from the French Ministry of Ecology (Ministère de la Transition écologique).

Order of presentation

Products are ranked according to their repairability score (EU repair Index). The order of presentation can be changed.

Brand / Model

Brand and model name of the base model.

Repair Index

The repair index / class indicates how easily devices can be repaired. Topten presents smartphones on the Swiss market that are easy to repair.

EU repair class
The EU energy label for smartphones was introduced for new devices on June 20, 2025. Among other things, this also includes a repair class. Repairability is rated from A (good) to E (poor).

French Repair Index
The repairability of appliances is assessed on the basis of 5 criteria in the French Repair Index. This results in an overall score of 0 to 10 points. The higher the score, the better the repairability. The values are color-coded and displayed as a logo next to a cogwheel and wrench.

The five assessment categories:

Documentation of repair instructions and schematics
Ease of dismantling the device (screws, for example, receive a better rating than gluing)
Availability of spare parts
Price of spare parts
Product specifics (e.g., availability of software updates, help on the website, hotline, etc.).

Ingress protection rating

The IP code (Ingress Protection) is a standardised rating that indicates the level of protection provided by a device. The first digit indicates protection against the ingress of solid objects, while the second digit indicates protection against water. For example, IP55 means that the device is protected against harmful amounts of dust and against water jets from any direction.

Drop test reliability class

This value indicates how robust the device is when repeatedly dropped from a height of one metre onto a steel plate. To meet the minimum requirement, the device must withstand at least 45 drops without damage.

Connectivity

Shows which cellular standard is supported (e.g., 4G or 5G).

Storage

The internal storage capacity of the smartphone in gigabyte (GB). The shown value corresponds to the smallest available version. Usually there is a range of storage options to choose from.

Screen size

Diagonal display size, in inch (1 inch = 2.54 cm).

Battery endurance in cycles

Indicates how many charge and discharge cycles the battery can withstand before its usable capacity falls to 80% of its original rated capacity. Example: 1000 cycles means that the battery reaches at least 1000 cycles before falling below this threshold.

Battery endurance per cycle

Indicates how long the smartphone can operate on a full battery charge in a standardised EU test. Example: 50 h 38 min means a tested operating time of 50 hours and 38 minutes per full charge.
