Topten.eu shows electric and plug-in cars using a traffic light colour system developed by the VCS in collaboration with the EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research).

Thanks to the traffic light system, important elements such as battery production can now also be evaluated.
Ranking order
The order is based on the VCS traffic light ranking.
Glossary
Fuel costs for 100'000 km (€)
The fuel costs are calculated for a mileage of 100'000 km, based on an electricity price of 0.20 €/kWh.
Traffic light system as rating for electric vehicles
The electric vehicles are evaluated using a traffic light system:
green: good
orange: medium
red: below average
The rating system was developed by the VCS in cooperation with the EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research).

Fuel
Indicates with which fuel the results were achieved. Electricity is obtained from naturemade star certified sources.
Fuel consumption (kWh/100km)
The electricity consumption of electric cars is expressed in kilowatt hours per 100 kilometres (kWh/100 km). In press releases and brochures the consumption from the battery is usually published. However, this does not correspond to reality, as a certain amount of electricity is consumed to charge the battery itself. The Auto-Environmental List therefore calculates consumption from the socket.
Even the standard consumption according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) does not take into account the electricity consumption for charging, cooling or heating the battery, nor the various consumptions during driving (lights, windscreen wipers, ventilation, heating, cooling, etc.). Therefore, the NEDC value is multiplied by a factor of 1.7 to calculate the real power consumption.
CO2 in g/km
This value indicates how much of the greenhouse gas CO2 is emitted per kilometre of driving. (Value according to naturemade star electricity)
Noise in dB(A)
The limit value is 74 dB(A) for all newly registered vehicles, with 75 dB(A) permissible for direct injection diesel engines. Source: Swiss Federal Roads Office
Seats
The maximum number of seats is indicated (also for models with the possibility to vary the number).
