Selection criteria dishwashers
MethodologyTopten.eu – Best products of Europe – presents the most energy efficient dishwashers of Europe. Topten presents two categories of dishwashers:
Technical criteriaIn order to qualify for topten.eu, dishwashers must meet the following criteria:
Relevant values have to be provided by the producers. Suppliers who are not able to provide these values cannot claim to have their appliances presented on topten.eu
Order of presentationThe products are ordered according to their Energy Efficiency Index (EEI). The order can be changed individually by clicking on the head of the tables.
Brand, Model and similar modelsBrand and model names. Products of similar construction and identical technical values are displayed only once, the similar models’ names are listed below. A click on the column of a product shows the detailed view.
Electricity and water costsAssumptions:
Place settingsCapacity in number of standard place settings according to EN 50242.
Height / Width / DepthDimensions of the model in cm. Built-in models: max. dimensions of the niche. Freestanding models: external dimensions.
Water consumptionWater consumption per year in litres according to the declaration on the EU energy label. The consumption is based on 280 standard cycles per year.
Hot water supplyA direct connection to hot water is possible, usually for water of max. 60°C. Dishwashers have one water pipe, and most models can be connected either to cold or warm water. When connected to the hot water, the dishwasher does not need to heat up the water electrically. A direct supply of hot water saves energy if the water is heated with renewable energies, a heat pump or by community heating. Even if the water is heated with domestic fuel oil or gas a direct hot water supply can be considered.
Noise emissionsNoise in decibel (db(A)) during cleaning according to the declaration on the EU energy label (measured according to IEC 60704-2-3).
Efficiency class: energy/ drying efficiency
The energy efficiency / drying efficiency class according to the EU energy label. The energy efficiency classes range from A+++ (most efficient) to A (least efficient allowed on the market). All dishwashers on Topten and most on the market have a class A drying efficiency.
According to the Ecodesign requirements only dishwashers with an energy class A, A+, A++ or A+++ are allowed on the EU market since 1 December 2011. And all all dishwashers except small ones (7 and less place settings) must have a class A drying efficiency.
Energy consumptionAnnual energy consumption in kWh according to the declaration on the EU energy label. The consumption is based on 280 standard cycles per year.
Energy Efficiency IndexEnergy Efficiency Index (EEI) according to the Energy Labelling regulation No 1059/2010. The EEI is the ratio of a model's annual energy consumption and the energy consumption of a standard model with the same number of place settings. The lower the EEI, the more energy efficient a dishwasher.
