How to participate?

To participate in the competition, products should be available on the European market (in at least one country partner of the EuroTopten Max project); full product information according to the respective product category and complying with the topten.eu selection criteria is requested to be sent to Andrea Berger andrea.berger@topten.eu. Out of these “Best of Europe” products, the best one stated on the website will be awarded with the “Topten Energy Award Logo” and invited for presentation at the Austrian fair expoEnergy Wels.

For LED lamps, the following product information should be provided:

  • Full product information according to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 874/2012 of 12 July 2012.
  • Average colour rendering of all 14 test colours.
  • For LED classic lamps, E27 cap: full product information according to Commission Regulation (EC) No 244/2009 of 18 March 2009.

  • ABC (automatic brightness control) activated when delivered
  • Maximum and preset brightness
  • Amount of simultaneously usable tuner

For tumble dryers, the following product information should be provided:

  • Full product information according to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 392/2012 of 1 March 2012.
  • Condensation efficiency in percent, rounded to the nearest whole percent, in accordance with Commission delegated regulation (EU) No 392/2012 of 1 March 2012.

How will the winner be chosen?

For both LED lamp sub-categories as defined above:

  • The winning product will be identified as the model presenting the lowest energy efficiency index (EEI) according to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 874/2012 of 12 July 2012, rounded to two decimal places.
  • Should there be identically well performing products, the model with the highest average colour rendering of all 14 test colours will win.

For TV sets as defined above:

  • The winner product will be identified as the model presenting the lowest energy efficiency index (EEI) according to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 1062/2010 of 28 September 2010, rounded to two decimal places.
  • Should there be identically well performing products, the model with the lowest on-mode power in watt measured in accordance with Annex VII of Commission delegated regulation (EU) No 1062/2010 of 28 September 2010, rounded to the first integer, will win.
  • Should there still be identically well performing products, the model that allows users to individually enable all wireless connections upon initial setup (if the television can be connected to a wireless network) and/or provides the option of individually enabling or disabling all wireless network connections using the installation menu, will win.

For tumble dryers as defined above:

  • The winning product will be identified as the model with the lowest energy efficiency index (EEI) according to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 392/2012 of 1 March 2012, rounded to two decimal places.
  • Should there be identically well performing products, the model with the highest condensation efficiency will win. The value (percentage) has to be given in accordance with Commission delegated regulation (EU) No 392/2012 of 1 March 2012, rounded to the nearest whole percent.

After the winning product has been identified, the manufacturer will be contacted. The manufacturer then has the possibility to withdraw from the competition or sign a letter of agreement for the product testing procedure (see below).

Should the winning product be sold under different brand names and/or in different countries, the manufacturing company or the brand under which the winning product is presented (i.e. in the information sent to Andrea Berger) will be contacted first. This manufacturer/brand will decide under which brand the product will be exhibited at the Wels fair. For communication purposes, Euro-Topten Max advises that the winning product be publicised under all of its brands and in all countries where it is sold. But the manufacturer will be the sole decicion maker who may use the Topten Energy Award Logo.
